With the release of the next FIFA just around the corner. Hype and anticipation begins to grow as we get closer to the release of the new game. The announcement that EA have acquired the official licensing to the champions league has a lot of FIFA fans excited to see what they have planned.
What does this mean for FIFA 19?
Earlier this year (2018), EA announced that it had acquired the Champions League licensing for FIFA 19. Previously, PES had the licensing but after an announcement from UEFA, this partnership was no more and EA swooped in to gain the license.
But what does this mean for FIFA? Well, the possibilities really are endless. This license means that EA can add a new element of authenticity to the new game. In FIFA 18 at the moment, EA are not allowed to mention the Champions League, Europa League or Super Cup which can take the element of immersion out of the game.
Now, with this new license, EA now have creative freedom to include all of these prestigious cups throughout their modes.
How will this look in FIFA?
In a recent interview, Creative Director Matt Prior said: "The Champions League license is back, it's been gone for a few years now, but we've got it back. At FIFA, we pride ourselves on authenticity. The lack of the Champions League was something that was missing. This was something that the community wanted.
When we did bring it back, we wanted to in such a way that it affected all users irrespective of what made they play. In FIFA you have so many users, the ultimate team user, the career mode user, the Journey user."
Prior continued to say: "When we brought the Champions League mode back we wanted to bring it back throughout the modes. So, we have a stand alone mode where you can just jump in and play the Champions League. We also have it in career mode, so now career mode is the fully authentic experience.
We also have The Journey, it's the final year of the story, and the story ark for that will him chasing the ultimate glory. We also have it in FUT, we will have FUT items".
Based off of this interview, it's apparent that EA's emphasis this year will be based on the Champions League. The good thing is, as mentioned, the Champions League will also be a highlight for several other modes in the game, not just FUT.
There are also several new additions which the community want to see in the game. For example, a lot of the community want a new FUT game mode much similar to the currently World Cup mode. Hopefully this will be something that EA consider.
All in all, we're excited for the release of FIFA and hope you are too.
