Orb of Transmutation is used at the first stage of crafting and is a very common currency. It turns your Normal item to a Magic item with one guaranteed modifier. Once you got your item rolling, you can proceed to use Orb of Augmentations, then Regal Orb to further improve your craft. These steps can completely be skipped by applying Orb of Alchemy on your item, getting 4 modifiers that way.
