Path of Exile 2 is shaping up to be a very different game from the first title. A lot of systems have been reworked. Some are simpler, while some are more complex, and a lot of old mechanics are just gone. One of the biggest changes is the removal of utility flasks, and because of that, one of PoE's most iconic items, the Path of Exile Mageblood belt, likely won't come back anytime soon.
The Mageblood is a top-tier PoE belt, not just because of its raw stats but because of its effect on utility flasks. Normally you have to activate flasks mid-fight to get resistances or movement speed boosts. With PoE Mageblood, those effects stay active all the time. No charges, no clicking, just constant power.
This attribute of the belt was a huge advantage in action. With the right setup, you'd get nonstop buffs, and you wouldn't have to press a single key. Players can combine Mageblood with Alchemist flasks and PoE Enkindling Orbs to boost those effects to a whole new level. It is pure power with minimal effort.
But in PoE 2, utility flasks just aren't in the game. Life, mana, and hybrid flasks are still there, but the special ones that PoE Mageblood relied on are gone. And without those, the belt doesn't really do anything.
Even if flasks return later, the design direction of PoE 2 has clearly moved away from the first game. The developers are trying to keep PoE 2 Items cleaner and balanced—something that Mageblood is definitely not. It is one of the most expensive PoE items in the game, and for good reason; it makes certain builds incredibly strong. It can be sold for hundreds of PoE Divine Orbs, and only the richest players ever get to use it.
That kind of overpowered PoE item doesn't fit well in a sequel aiming for broader appeal and more balanced power levels. Since utility flasks aren't present in the same way in PoE 2, Mageblood can't exist in its current form and would need a major rework to be included in the sequel.
Could Mageblood come back in a reworked form? Maybe. But right now, with no utility flasks and a new game philosophy, it's probably staying on the bench. And yet, that might be for the best. It had its time, and it completely dominated when it did.
In PoE 2, the goal seems to be about building strong characters through versatile builds and many PoE item combinations. And let's be honest, Mageblood turned many builds into a god.
