Top Mercenary Picks in Path of Exile: Secrets of the Atlas

2025.07.13

The Secrets of the Atlas update has dropped, and Path of Exile's 3.26 has introduced mercenaries. Starting early in the campaign, these allies fight alongside your character, equipped with their own skills, gear, and build archetypes. Once you reach PoE Maps, the right mercenary can carry real weight: not just surviving content but actively supporting your clear speed, damage output, and survivability.

If you're trying to figure out which mercenaries are worth investing in for late-game grinding, mapping, and farming, here's a look at the most impactful endgame mercenary types in the Mercenaries of Trarthus league.

Kineticist
Arguably the strongest overall archetype right now. The Kineticist brings a rare triple-stat base, allowing it to equip the widest range of gear and PoE Items. With Elemental Weakness, Haste, and Flame Wall, it fits smoothly into most builds. Be it movement speed, faster clears, or extra elemental damage, the Kineticist delivers.
In high-end setups, players are combining the Kineticist with PoE Items like Doryani's Prototype or Asenath's Gentle Touch, unlocking powerful synergies. It can debuff, buff, and still deal solid damage with Kinetic Blast or Bolt. A versatile choice that scales well into late mapping tiers.

Eruptor
If you're running fire-based builds or just want a walking inferno at your side, the Eruptor fits the role. This Strength-based brawler smashes through enemies with Volcanic Fissure of Snaking and Consecrated Path, backed up by Molten Shell for durability.
Flamelink ties you together, boosting fire damage for both of you. With the right Two-Handed PoE Weapon and a bit of gear investment, the Eruptor can clear full packs on its own. This one's a great pick for solo players looking to ease the burden of clearing maps quickly.

Flaming Charlatan
The Flaming Charlatan sits somewhere between support and DPS. It deals decent fire damage with Meteor, Purifying Flame, and Scorching Ray Totem, but its real value lies in Anger and Herald of Ash. These auras add flat fire damage and spread burning explosions, making them ideal for builds that scale with fire damage or rely on explosive effects.
It also benefits from the Strength/Int stat profile, letting it use high-value support gear like Sign of the Sin Eater or Eye of Innocence. Great for builds that rely on burn or crit-based fire setups.

Fallen Reverend
Not everyone wants their mercenary to deal damage. Sometimes, the best use is passive power: free auras and utility from PoE Items you don't want to wear. The Fallen Reverend thrives in this space. With access to Wrath and Zealotry, casters can benefit from added spell and elemental damage while the mercenary carries uniques that offload ailments or offer powerful passive effects.
One standout interaction is pairing them with Sign of the Sin Eater, which redirects ailments from the player. That's an endgame lifesaver for any character pushing into juiced maps with heavy elemental penalties.

Cruel Mistress
If your build centers on chaos damage or you want to slow everything around you, the Cruel Mistress is a great pick. Void Sphere pulls mobs into a pile. Despair curses their resistances. Soulrend of Reaping and Dark Pact layer on extra damage.
If you find one with the Envy aura, chaos builds can spike in effectiveness. Not everyone needs this one, but for the right playstyle, it's a potent partner.

Bladecaster
This Dexterity/Intelligence archetype deals solid physical and spell damage while also layering on slowing effects with Aspect of the Spider. Grace provides a helpful evasion aura, while Blade Vortex and Ethereal Knives contribute to screen clears.
The Bladecaster isn't the flashiest or tankiest, but when equipped with the right evasion-focused gear and capped resistances, it holds its own and adds decent damage from the backline.

Manyshot
Last on the list, but still useful in the right setups. Manyshot offers Grace and Hatred, two extremely useful auras. Hatred alone is a big win: it provides a significant damage boost for cold or physical conversion builds and comes with no mana reservation tax for the player.
The clone-based attacks and chill effects are just icing on the cake. You're not bringing this merc for their personal kill count. You bring them for efficient support, and they do it well.

Final Advice
With mercenaries playing such a key role this league, choosing the right one can completely change how smoothly you push through the Atlas. Some archetypes are better in support roles, others pump out raw damage, and a few can be molded into full-blown map-clearers. Take a good look at your build's gaps and match it with the mercenary that complements it best. With the right gear and gem rolls, they are a part of your endgame strategy.
