Blizzard has officially opened beta sign-ups for the next expansion in the World of Warcraft Classic lineup, Mists of Pandaria Classic. While we’ve known for a while that the Classic progression servers would continue beyond Cataclysm, this is the first real step forward toward launch. The return to Pandaria doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but based on Blizzard’s previously shared content roadmap, we’re likely to see a pre-patch sometime in the summer, which means beta testing needs to begin this spring. And now, it is.
Players who want to take part in polishing the re-release can now opt in via Blizzard’s official beta page. The process is simple: click the “Beta Opt-In” button, log in to your Battle.net account, and confirm your interest. After that, all you can do is wait and hope the titans smile upon your application.
A Turning Point for Classic
Mists of Pandaria Classic marks a significant moment for the entire Classic project. The original MoP release back in 2012 was divisive at the time: some players weren’t ready for Pandaren monks and a more serene setting after the dark intensity of Cataclysm. But over the years, the community has warmed up to it, with many players now recognizing it as one of the more balanced and well-designed expansions.
Following MoP, the next expansion in line would be Warlords of Draenor, which, while not terrible in terms of content quality, left a lot of players cold. The Garrison system, the heavy focus on solo play, and the lack of meaningful endgame updates gave it a rough reputation, and it is often considered one of the weakest expansions in the game’s history.
But there's nothing to worry about, as the Legion update is coming after WoD, and it's really loved by the World of Warcraft fans. So the future of Classic might hinge on how MoP is received.
Till then, all eyes are on Pandaria. The beta sign-ups are live, the test phase is just around the corner, and soon, players will once again set sail for the mists. It doesn’t matter if you’re in it for the nostalgia, the raiding, the PvP, or just to kick back and roll a Monk; it’s a good time to return to the world that once surprised everyone, and it might do so again.
