FC 26 Team of the Year Guide

2026.01.25

Team of the Year is the one promo in Ultimate Team that makes otherwise sensible people do completely irrational stuff. They start hoarding packs like they are prepping for the apocalypse, they throw FC Coins into SBCs they do not even want, and they convince themselves that opening 200 packs at 2 a.m. will magically produce a TOTY. Most of the time it does not. Then they end up broke, their club is empty, and they spend the rest of the promo grinding upgrades out of frustration.

This guide is for the opposite outcome. It is a practical FC 26 TOTY prep plan built around one idea: you should leave TOTY with more options than you had before it started. That can mean more FC 26 Coin, better fodder, a stronger squad, or all three. The key is that you prep with intent instead of copying whatever a streamer did on a lucky day.

You will see phrases like EA FC 26 TOTY, Team of the Year FC 26, TOTY packs, TOTY SBC, fodder, TOTY objectives, FC Coin and FC Coins in here, because those are the terms people actually search. But the goal is not to spam them. The goal is to help you keep your coin balance healthy while everyone else is setting theirs on fire.

What TOTY Does to the Market

Before you do anything, understand the simple market shift that happens every year. During TOTY, supply and attention both spike. Everybody opens packs. Everybody does upgrades. Everybody is chasing the same blue cards. That changes the price of almost everything, but not in a straight line.

Usually you see two big effects:

First, normal gold cards and a lot of mid-tier special cards get cheaper because pack openings flood the market with more supply than usual. If you are planning to buy upgrades for your actual starting eleven, TOTY can be a great time to pick up certain players cheaper than they were a week earlier.

Second, fodder becomes volatile. During heavy upgrade cycles and big SBC releases, high-rated fodder can spike hard. Then it can crash when people stop grinding or when the next wave of supply hits. This is why the same card can be cheap on Monday and overpriced on Wednesday. Your job is to avoid buying at the worst possible moments.

Decide Your TOTY Goal

This sounds obvious, but most people skip this step. If you do not know what you want, you will do everything and achieve nothing.

Pick one primary goal:

  • You want to build FC 26 Coins and exit TOTY richer than you entered.
  • You want to complete specific TOTY SBC content and you need fodder.
  • You want to open TOTY packs for the thrill and accept the cost.
  • You want one big squad upgrade, and TOTY is your buying window.

You can do more than one, but you cannot do all of them at max intensity unless you already have a huge club and a huge coin stack.

If your goal is to save coins, the plan is different. You will open fewer packs, craft more efficiently, and sell at smarter times. If your goal is to “chase TOTY,” fine, but at least be honest so you do not end up mad at the game for doing exactly what it always does.

Pack saving

Not all packs are worth saving. Some packs are basically just duplicate generators that clog your club and force you into quick selling when prices are low.

Here is a clean rule for FC 26 TOTY prep:

Save packs that have a real chance to produce useful fodder or high-value pulls. Open the low-tier packs now, when you still need coins and when duplicates are easier to manage.

Packs that are usually worth saving include bigger rare player packs, jumbo rare packs, high-rated guarantee-style packs, and anything that leans toward rare golds and higher overall pulls. Packs that are usually not worth clogging your storage with are tiny mixed packs, low-tier gold packs, and random small reward packs that mostly produce discard value.

Also, do not forget the duplicate problem. During TOTY, you will open lots of packs. If you are saving hundreds of packs, you are signing up for hours of duplicate management. That can be fine, but it is a real cost. A smart TOTY prep plan includes a way to deal with duplicates without wasting time and without panicking and submitting players into random SBCs.

The “Fodder Bank” strategy

If you only take one concept from this guide, take this: fodder is your bank account during TOTY.

When SBCs drop, everyone suddenly needs the same high-rated cards. If you have them in your club already, you can complete TOTY SBC content without paying peak prices. If you do not, you will either skip content you wanted or you will pay the worst price possible.

The best way to prep is to build a small, controlled fodder bank. Not endless. Not hoarder level. Just enough to let you craft.

Think in tiers:

  • Low fodder: the stuff you use for upgrades and low-requirement SBCs.
  • Mid fodder: decent-rated cards you can plug into value SBCs.
  • High fodder: the pieces you only use when a big SBC drops and you know you want it.

The mistake is using high fodder for low value SBCs because you got impatient. That is how you leak FC 26 Coin without noticing. During TOTY, patience is literally profit.

Stop Crafting Like a Gambler

TOTY SBCs are where players destroy their clubs. They open packs, they get duplicates, they panic, they dump everything into upgrades, and then they are shocked when they cannot complete the one-player SBC they actually wanted.

Do not craft blindly.

A better method is to set an SBC budget for yourself before TOTY even starts. Budget can be in FC 26 Coins, or it can be in fodder value, or it can be in a pack count you are willing to burn.

For example: you decide you will do upgrade SBCs until you hit a certain duplicate pressure point, then you stop. Or you decide you will do a specific number of upgrade runs each day, then pause and reassess based on the market.

Also, do not ignore TOTY objectives. Objectives are the quiet source of extra packs and fodder that a lot of players forget. If you are trying to save FC Coins, objectives are basically free value. You should treat TOTY objectives like part of your pack plan, not like optional side content.

When to buy players

If your plan includes upgrading your squad, TOTY is often a strong buying window, but timing matters. The market can drop when pack supply is high and rebound when supply slows.

A very simple approach works for most players:

  • Buy when pack openings peak and people are undercutting.

Avoid buying immediately after hype moments when everyone is chasing the same card.

If you are not a trader, do not try to time the absolute bottom. You will drive yourself crazy. Aim to buy during high supply windows and be satisfied that you avoided overpaying.

Also, do not turn your whole coin stack into one shiny purchase unless you are sure. During TOTY, flexibility is power. A big pile of FC Coins lets you respond to market opportunities, complete SBCs if something great drops, or pivot if your initial plan was wrong.

The daily TOTY Routine

If you want a repeatable routine that does not burn you out, here is one that works:

Log in, check objectives, claim rewards, open only the packs that you designated as “open now” packs and then store the rest. If you get duplicates, decide immediately whether they are going into a specific SBC you already planned or whether you are holding them.

Then do a controlled amount of upgrades. After that, stop and check your club health. If your high fodder is dropping too fast, you slow down. If your coin balance is bleeding, you pause. If the market for certain fodder cards is crazy high, you sell instead of feeding the SBC machine.

How to turn duplicates into value

Duplicates during TOTY are inevitable. The difference between smart players and frustrated players is what they do with them.

If you keep getting untradeable duplicates, the best move is to have one or two “dump SBCs” that you already decided are acceptable. That can be a player pick style upgrade, a low requirement pack SBC, or a crafting path you planned. The key is that you decide in advance, so you are not making decisions while annoyed.

If you are getting tradeable duplicates, and prices are high because of an SBC spike, selling is often the correct move. This is one of the easiest ways to build FC 26 Coin during TOTY without doing fancy trading. You simply sell into demand.

The Simplest Coin Saving Rules

If you want to leave TOTY with FC Coins instead of regrets, follow these 4 rules:

  • Do not buy players on hype night unless you are fine paying a premium.
  • Do not submit high-rated fodder into random SBCs because you want to clear duplicates quickly.
  • Do not keep opening packs endlessly once your club is clogged and you are forced into quick selling.
  • Do not chase TOTY by burning your entire coin stack unless that is literally your goal.

Most coin loss during TOTY is not one big mistake. It is a hundred small, impatient decisions.

A Realistic Expectation Check About TOTY Packs

Yes, you can pack a TOTY. People do. Clips exist. But most players will not pack one, even with a lot of TOTY packs. If your plan depends on packing a TOTY to “make the coins back,” you are basically gambling.

A better plan is that packs give you fodder, fodder gives you SBC flexibility, and SBCs plus market timing give you progress. If you pack something huge, that is a bonus.

This expectation check is not meant to kill the fun. It is meant to protect your FC Coin balance and your mood.

TL;DR

Save your best packs, open your low-tier packs now, build a controlled fodder bank, cap your SBC spending, use TOTY objectives for free value, buy players during high supply windows, sell tradeable pulls into demand spikes, and do not chase TOTY like your coin balance is infinite.

If you follow the rules, you will come out of Team of the Year in FC 26 with a stronger club, more options, and possibly the strongest season you have ever had.
