A next chapter of Diablo games has been announced on this year's Blizzcon and received controversial responses. 6 years after the Diablo 3 release and 4 years after the sequel, Reaper of Souls the hardcore fans expected some movements around the franchise. After years of missed announcements, Blizzard finally revealed one of their current Diablo project that hey are currently working on.
Diablo Immortal takes the massively multiplayer experience to a different level as it will be released for mobile platforms which as we can expect will simplify the gameplay even more. The reaction for the announcement was mostly negative as after the flaws and limitations of Diablo 3, fans have expected another PC version of the game. Unfortunately there are no plans of a PC port.
The story takes place shortly after Diablo II Lord of Destruction and we will get to know what happened to Deckard Cain in the meantime, how did the Demon Hunters unite and why did Malthael leave heaven. Blizzard are looking to keep up with the good old, fast-paced hack and slash gameplay experience and they partnered with Netease to make this happen. The expectations are pretty high, even though the mobile platform also has its own limitations.
The first look on the gameplay can be very familiar for mobile RPG players as many other games including Crusaders of Light and Eternium has similar style of gameplay. Unfortunately there is nothing known about itemization and how our character will be equipped. Blizzard showed us the multiplayer aspects of the game which seems to be featuring a 8-players party in the depths of hell. The party may contain many classes that we have seen previously in Diablo 3 including Barbarian, Wizard, Demon Hunter, Necromancer, Monk and Crusader. According to Blizzard's presentation the game will regularly introduce new characters, stories and also dynamic quests.
Diablo Immortal will be released in 2019 for Android and iOS and it will probably be free to play, just like Hearthstone. A pre-registration is already available.
For people who were expecting different Diablo-related announcements, Blizzard also claimed that they are working on multiple Diablo projects at the moment and they will reveal them when they feel like the time has come.
