Once players get through Act 6 in Path of Exile 2, the endgame Atlas begins to open up, and with it, several mysterious structures appear. One of the more cryptic ones is the Reliquary Vault. Found near the Realmgate and the Ziggurat Refuge, it shows up with little explanation. The game offers only a vague line: “Ancient Treasures Await.” Understandably, that leaves many players wondering what it’s actually for.
What Is the Reliquary Vault?
The Reliquary Vault is a unique, combat-free PoE 2 map that serves one specific purpose: to reward you with a random Foiled Unique PoE item. Accessing it requires a Reliquary Key, which you can either find while playing or buy from other players through the trade site.
When you enter the Vault, don’t expect enemies, loot explosions, or long layouts. There’s only a single chest inside, called the Twilight Order Chest. You open it, take the item, and the PoE 2 map ends.
What Are Foiled Uniques?
Foiled Uniques are special versions of unique PoE items that feature a glowing visual effect. Stat-wise, they’re identical to their normal counterparts. There’s no bonus power or hidden modifier. What makes them different is purely cosmetic — along with the fact that each one includes custom flavor text created by a Path of Exile 2 supporter who purchased the Liberator of Wraeclast pack.
These PoE items are more about style and prestige than progression. Think of them like collector’s items. For some players, they’re just another slot machine. For others, they’re a way to show off something rare and visually distinct.
Types of PoE 2 Reliquary Keys
There are two kinds of PoE Reliquary Keys, and the difference matters if you're chasing something specific.
- Twilight Reliquary Keys can drop from any monster in the game. They open the vault, but the chest will only contain global uniques, meaning items that aren’t tied to a specific boss. If you’re hoping to get something like Temporalis, which is locked behind a boss encounter, this key won’t help.
- Pinnacle Boss Reliquary Keys are a bit more exclusive. They only drop from Pinnacle Bosses like Xesht or the Arbiter of Ash. Using one of these gives you a chance at boss-exclusive Foiled Uniques. It’s not guaranteed, but it’s the only way to roll for some of the rarer designs.
Can You Farm the Keys?
Not really, at least not in a targeted way. Keys can drop anywhere, but the drop rate is low. There's no reliable method to force more to appear other than doing what you’d be doing anyway: clearing content and killing lots of enemies. Pinnacle versions, of course, only come from bosses that take real time and effort to reach.
The other option is trade. Players can buy keys from others, but prices vary wildly. Some items in the loot pool, like Astramentis, drive up the value, making the gamble even riskier if you're just hoping for a cool-looking unique.
Final Thoughts
The Reliquary Vault isn’t essential for progression. It’s not something you need to interact with to advance in the Atlas or to beat endgame bosses. But for collectors, fans of rare cosmetics, or players who enjoy the thrill of opening a single, high-stakes chest, it’s a fun little side mechanic.
Just don’t go in expecting to always walk away with something amazing, unless you enjoy the roll itself. Like many things in Path of Exile 2, it’s as much about the experience as it is about the reward.
