PoE 3.29 Intangibility Explained: How It Affects Allflame Crafting

2026.08.30

Allflame Crafting gives Path of Exile players a powerful way to preview several possible results from a single currency action. Vesper uses Dead Man’s Sulphur to create Ghostly Copies of an item, allowing the player to inspect multiple outcomes before choosing one version to keep. This extra control makes valuable Exalted Orb, Regal Orb, Essence, Fossil, and other crafting actions much easier to evaluate. The system also contains a permanent limitation called Intangibility. Many Allflame crafts add a percentage of Intangibility to the resulting item, and that percentage follows the item into later crafting attempts. As the value rises, Vesper becomes less reliable at creating several Ghostly Copies. A future craft can produce only one result, removing the selection advantage that makes Allflame Crafting so powerful. Grinding Gear Games describes Intangibility as the long-term cost that gradually reduces the possible outcomes that Vesper can create through repeated use. Patch 3.29.2 also added Intangibility filtering to the official Trade website, making the value relevant when buying unfinished crafting bases from other players. A successful Allflame project therefore depends on more than choosing the right currency. Players also need to manage how much Intangibility they are willing to accept before each expensive step.

What Intangibility Means in PoE 3.29
Intangibility is a percentage that can become attached to an item after it passes through Allflame Crafting. The value represents increasing instability within Vesper’s crafting process. When the item returns to the Allflame system later, its existing Intangibility can interfere with Vesper’s ability to produce the normal number of Ghostly Copies. The in-game explanation states that many crafts apply Intangibility at a certain percentage and that future attempts have a chance to create only one Ghostly Copy based on the Intangibility that is already present on the item. Community reports that reproduce the in-game tooltip confirm this behaviour. This means a 0% item provides the cleanest starting position for an expensive crafting project. As the percentage increases, every later Allflame step carries greater uncertainty. Intangibility does not directly weaken the modifiers that are already present on the item. Its effect targets the special selection advantage that Vesper provides. A crafted helmet with excellent prefixes remains the same helmet after Intangibility rises. The danger appears when the player returns for another Allflame action and expects several possible versions. The item may produce only a single result, leaving no alternative outcome to choose.

How Ghostly Copies Work in PoE Allflame Crafting
Ghostly Copies are the core reason Allflame Crafting can outperform a normal currency application. The player places an item into Vesper’s crafting interface, selects a compatible currency action, spends the required Dead Man’s Sulphur, and receives several spectral versions that represent possible results. The player then chooses one version, while the remaining Ghostly Copies disappear. Grinding Gear Games designed this system to give greater control over crafting actions that normally provide a single random outcome. A normal PoE Exalted Orb gives one new modifier. Through Allflame Crafting, the same type of action can offer several possible versions when the system creates multiple copies. The player can inspect each result and keep the strongest one. Intangibility becomes important because it counters this exact advantage. When it activates during a later attempt, Vesper creates only one Ghostly Copy even when the interface would normally produce several. Community reports initially described this as a bug because the crafting interface could still display a larger expected copy count. The behaviour was traced to Intangibility through the in-game explanation. The safest way to think about Intangibility is therefore simple: higher values make future multi-result crafting less dependable.

How Intangibility Changes Future Crafts
Every time a PoE item gains additional Intangibility, future Allflame use becomes more dangerous. The key issue is the chance that a craft provides only one Ghostly Copy. A low value may still allow several successful multi-copy attempts, while a high value increases the likelihood that Vesper removes the player’s ability to compare outcomes. This creates an important difference between early and late stages of an item project. Early steps usually have more room for experimentation because replacing the base remains affordable. Later stages can involve elevated modifiers, valuable influences, rare fractures, expensive meta crafts, or several successful previous steps. At that point, losing the multi-copy advantage can make a currency action significantly more dangerous. The item itself can still receive the chosen craft, although the player may receive only one possible result. The percentage should therefore be treated as a resource that is consumed across the life of the item. A player who spends several Allflame attempts on cheap early steps may arrive at the expensive part with much higher Intangibility. Efficient crafting saves the strongest selection advantage for steps where several possible outcomes have the greatest financial value. This approach turns Intangibility management into part of the original crafting plan.

Why Starting With Zero Intangibility Is Valuable
A clean PoE item base with 0% Intangibility gives the player the highest flexibility for a multi-stage Allflame project. This becomes especially valuable on expensive bases where several important  PoE currency actions may be required before the item reaches its final form. Consider an influenced helmet that needs one valuable modifier, an elevation step, another influence interaction, and a later finishing craft. Spending early Allflame uses on minor upgrades can increase Intangibility before the expensive stages begin. Starting from zero gives the player more room to decide where the system provides the greatest advantage. Experienced crafters frequently replace a failed early base with another clean item when the existing one has gained too much Intangibility for the remaining plan. Community build discussions during 3.29 show players deliberately beginning again with 0% bases after unsuccessful Allflame attempts. This does not mean every item with Intangibility has poor value. A partially completed item with exceptional modifiers can justify additional risk. The percentage simply becomes another property that should enter the price calculation. When two similar bases are available, the cleaner one can have much greater crafting flexibility even when their visible prefixes and suffixes look nearly identical.

When to Use Allflame Crafting on Expensive PoE Items
Allflame Crafting provides the most value when the normal PoE currency action has several possible outcomes and the difference between a strong and weak result is expensive. Exalted-style additions are an obvious example because several Ghostly Copies can offer several possible new modifiers from one attempt. Similar logic applies to crafting actions where modifier tiers, modifier categories, or other random results determine the final value of the item. A player should identify these critical stages before starting the project. Use standard crafting methods for steps where additional choices provide little benefit, then preserve Allflame attempts for stages where seeing several results can save substantial PoE currency. Intangibility makes this planning especially important because repeated use carries a long-term cost. A powerful base should have a complete crafting route before the first expensive Allflame action. Write down the desired prefixes, suffixes, influence effects, open affix requirements, meta crafts, and final finishing options. Then identify which steps gain the greatest advantage from multiple outcomes. This approach reduces unnecessary Intangibility and keeps Vesper available for the highest-risk actions. An improvised crafting session can burn through several opportunities on small improvements and leave the final premium step dependent on a single Ghostly Copy.

Intangibility and Imprints Require Extra Care
Imprints require special attention when Allflame Crafting enters the process. The in-game Ghostly Copies explanation states that items that are created as a result of Allflame Crafting cannot be returned to an earlier state through Imprinting. Players have reported discovering this interaction after creating an Imprint, continuing the item through Allflame Crafting, and then finding that the original Imprint could no longer restore the item. This interaction can become extremely expensive on rare Amulet, Talisman, influenced, or other specialised crafting projects where Imprints form part of the planned safety strategy. Before combining these systems, read the Ghostly Copies keyword explanation directly inside Vesper’s interface and confirm that the next Allflame step fits the intended route. An Imprint should never be treated as universal protection for an item after it has passed through Ghostly Copy creation. This is particularly important when the underlying base already carries substantial market value. Players who rely heavily on Beastcrafting should decide where the Imprint stage ends and where Allflame Crafting begins. Keeping those phases clearly separated can prevent a situation where an expensive backup exists in inventory but can no longer restore the current PoE item.

Intangibility Can Now Be Searched on Trade
Patch 3.29.2 added the ability to search and filter PoE items by Intangibility on the official Path of Exile Trade website. This update is important because Intangibility can affect the practical crafting value of an unfinished base even when two items have identical visible modifiers. A buyer searching for an influenced helmet, premium Amulet, weapon, or specialised rare can now consider the existing Intangibility percentage before spending currency. Low or zero Intangibility is especially desirable when the buyer plans several Allflame steps. Higher values can still make sense when the item already contains most of the desired modifiers and only needs conventional finishing methods. Trade evaluation should therefore include three separate questions. First, how strong is the current item? Second, how many Allflame steps remain in the planned craft? Third, how much Intangibility has the previous owner already accumulated? A cheaper item with substantial Intangibility can become more expensive in practice if the remaining plan depends on repeated multi-copy attempts. A cleaner base may justify a higher purchase price because it preserves access to Vesper’s strongest feature. The Trade filter turns this hidden crafting history into a searchable economic property.

How Ducats Interact With Intangibility Planning
Ducats make Intangibility management even more important because their exclusive effects can become some of the most valuable Allflame steps in an item project. Kishara’s Ducat creates special Ghostly Copy interactions around modifiers, Genteel’s Ducat changes eligible attribute requirements or related supported properties, and Brinehook’s Ducat can introduce powerful Aspect effects. Grinding Gear Games introduced these items as unique crafting tools that are available only through the Allflame system. A player who intends to use a rare Ducat late in the crafting process should avoid accumulating unnecessary Intangibility beforehand. The ideal route preserves as much multi-copy reliability as possible for the stage where a rare artefact enters the craft. This is especially important when several potential Ducat outcomes exist and the item already carries significant investment. A single-copy result can remove the main advantage of previewing alternatives. The correct sequence depends on the specific item. Some projects benefit from using a Ducat early and developing the remaining modifiers afterward. Others need a completed affix structure before the exclusive effect becomes useful. Planning the order in advance prevents cheap Allflame actions from consuming the item’s flexibility before the most valuable step begins.

When to Stop Using Allflame Crafting
Knowing when to stop is one of the most valuable skills in the system. An item can reach a point where further Allflame attempts offer less expected value than conventional crafting methods. High Intangibility, several completed premium modifiers, and a limited number of remaining changes are strong signs that the player should evaluate other options. Bench crafting, Harvest, Beastcrafting, Eldritch currency, influence systems, ordinary currency, or a final corruption step may finish the item without adding further dependence on Ghostly Copies. The decision should consider both the probability of receiving multiple results and the cost of a bad single-copy outcome. A nearly completed item may have much more to lose than an unfinished base. This asymmetry means the same Intangibility value can carry very different risk on two items. Twenty percent on an inexpensive early craft may be acceptable. The same percentage on an item that already consumed a large budget deserves much closer evaluation. Avoid chasing perfection automatically. A strong item with one average modifier can already provide excellent performance. Additional Allflame attempts should have a clear expected benefit that justifies exposing the item to another single-copy chance. Finishing at the right point preserves both currency and the successful work that came before it.

Building an Efficient Allflame Crafting Plan
A stable crafting plan treats Intangibility as a limited budget from the first step. Begin with the cleanest base that is practical, preferably at 0% when the project depends heavily on Vesper. Determine the final modifier structure before spending expensive PoE currency. Separate the craft into early setup, high-value random steps, and final finishing actions. Standard crafting methods can handle predictable parts of the item, while Allflame Crafting can focus on moments where several Ghostly Copies provide a meaningful advantage. Check the Intangibility value after every use and reconsider the remaining route if it rises faster than expected. When purchasing partially completed items, use the Trade website filter that was added in patch 3.29.2 and compare clean examples with higher-Intangibility alternatives. Ducats deserve their own place in the sequence because their exclusive effects may justify preserving a cleaner item until late in the project. Imprints also require special planning because Ghostly Copy items cannot simply return to an earlier Imprinted state. A disciplined route reduces wasted Sulphur, protects expensive bases, and uses Vesper where multiple outcomes provide the greatest advantage.

Final Thoughts
Intangibility is the balancing mechanism that keeps repeated Allflame Crafting from providing unlimited access to multiple outcomes. Vesper can split one crafting action into several Ghostly Copies, allowing players to inspect possible results before selecting a single item to keep. Repeated use can add Intangibility, and future crafts can then produce only one Ghostly Copy according to the chance that is represented by the item’s existing Intangibility. The percentage therefore becomes part of the item’s crafting history and should influence every later decision. Clean 0% bases provide the greatest flexibility, while higher values make valuable Allflame steps increasingly uncertain. Patch 3.29.2 makes this property easier to evaluate by allowing players to filter Intangibility directly on the official Trade website. Ducat projects benefit from preserving low values before rare crafting actions, and Imprint users need to understand that Ghostly Copy items carry special restrictions that can invalidate a planned restoration route. The strongest approach is to decide the complete item path before the first expensive Allflame craft, reserve Vesper for steps where several outcomes provide real value, and move to conventional finishing methods once another attempt becomes too risky. Used with that discipline, Intangibility becomes a manageable crafting cost rather than an unexpected reason for a valuable item to produce only one possible result.
