Last Epoch’s Next Season Awakens the Primal Hunt

2025.08.17

Last Epoch Season 3 Beneath Ancient is almost here, and the devs have started showing what's coming later this month. One of the big new features is called Primal Hunt, and it's more than just “kill monster, get loot.” It's a mix of tracking, fighting, evolving beasts, and scoring gear that can seriously change your build.
As exciting as it sounds, it's also quite complex. But don'tworry, we've gathered everything you need to know about the new season. Here's how it works.

While playing through the Campaign or running the Monolith of Fate, you might stumble into a Rift. Inside, you'll find yourself in a cavern where Skarven Bloodhorn, a Wengari Hunt Master, is waiting. He'll send you on the hunt, but you'll have to carve your way through a bunch of nasty creatures before you get to the real threat: the Rift Beast.

The Rift Beast is a tough enemy. If you fail to stop it in its own realm, it will attempt to break into others. Defeat it before it escapes, and you will earn more than just bragging rights: you'll walk away with Last Epoch Unique Items, valuable crafting materials, and choices that can influence future hunts.

Bones, Feathers, and Fangs from your kills can be traded for special rewards, like Last Epoch Rune of Evolution. Slap it on an Exalted Last Epoch Item with at least one Tier 7 affix, and there's a chance the item evolves into something with even better stats. The risk is part of the fun, and the reward can be huge. On top of that, there are Primordial Uniques, which are powerful gear that you can only equip one of at a time, so picking the right one is crucial.

The coolest part might be what happens after you take down the beast. You get to choose a Lineage for its hatchlings, setting them on a path they'll follow as they grow in Torn Rifts. Over time, you'll run into Mysterious Rifts that let you upgrade those Lineages, giving you more evolutions and customization for your “beast family.”

Primal Hunt is just one part of Beneath Ancient Skies, and the devs aren't spilling everything yet. They're planning to reveal more about the season's bosses and environments over the next week. What's already been shown makes it clear Season 3 isn't just about adding new enemies; it's about building a system you can engage with for weeks or months, not just a quick clear.

Getting a random Unique Last Epoch Item each time you hunt down a beast sounds like a good deal. It offers short-term excitement from finding a Rift and bringing down a beast and long-term satisfaction from upgrading your gear and evolving Lineages. It feels like the kind of update that could attract people into Last Epoch's magical world or keep current players hooked.

Beneath Ancient Skies drops on August 21. If Primal Hunt plays as good as it sounds, Season 3 could be one of the strongest moments for the game so far. Just be ready to track, fight, and plan ahead, because the beasts you take down today might be the ones powering you up tomorrow.
