Ascendancy Respec in POE2

2025.04.21

If you’ve been feeling stuck with your Ascendancy choice in Path of Exile 2, good news is on the way. Grinding Gear Games just announced that players will soon be able to change their Ascendancy class. It's something the community has been asking for for a while, and it looks like it’s finally happening next week.

There’s a bit of a catch, though it’s not something you’ll be able to do freely at any time. To respec, you’ll need to replay the Ascendancy Trial, and only if that trial gives you the same number of points you already earned. Also, you can’t have any points currently allocated to your Ascendancy. So yeah, there are rules, but the option will finally exist. You’ll be able to do it at Balbala or the Trialmaster, both near the Ascension device.

Even with those conditions, this is a huge improvement. Right now, if you pick an Ascendancy and regret it, your only real choice is to start over. That’s frustrating, especially in a game that encourages you to experiment with builds. With this update, players will have more freedom to try new things without committing to a full reset.

This change comes after a bit of a rough patch. The last big update wasn’t exactly well received. Some players felt the game became too grindy, and damage scaling made non-meta builds feel a bit complicated. For a short time, PoE 2’s Steam reviews even received some negative feedback. That’s never a great sign. But since then, things have started to bounce back, and this upcoming feature feels like a step in the right direction.

A few other updates are also coming. The level requirement for seven-chamber ultimatums is dropping from 60 to 55, and the ten-chamber ones will be available at level 65 instead of 75. It’s a small change, but it should make the mid-to-late game feel a bit smoother.

It’s easy to forget that Path of Exile 2 is still in early access. Things are going to shift, and not everything will land perfectly on the first try. But the developers are clearly paying attention to feedback. Adding something like Ascendancy respecs—even with limitations—shows they’re willing to make changes that players actually want.

So if you’ve been on the fence or took a break after the last patch, this might be a good time to check back in. No, the game’s not perfect yet. The developers’ commitment and PoE 2’s focus on its players give confidence that the game is on its way to becoming something truly legendary.
